3M™ Dust-management Systems

3M makes abrasives and accessories for all of the popular woodworking dust collection systems. It's the hassle-free way to collect wood dust, chips and shavings, while keeping you and your shop clean.

3M™ Air-Powered Sanders have built-in dust ports which you can attach to a central-vacuum system or filter bag for self-generated units. Disc pads and abrasives have a series of matching holes cut into them that allow dust to be pulled through the holes and out away from the sanding surface. This helps keep your working environment clean, as well as improves disc life.

3M™ Abrasives and Accessories are ready to use with your self-generated vacuum or central-vacuum-ready random orbital sanders and orbital sanders, available in three popular dust-management systems – Clean Sanding, 5-hole and 6-hole.

Revolutionary 3M™ Clean Sanding System

The NEW Clean Sanding Dust-management System helps eliminate dust control worries by combining your self-generated vacuum sander with the patented Clean Sanding multi-hole abrasives, disc pads and Clean Sanding filter bag. You can also combine the Clean Sanding abrasives and disc pads on your central-vacuum-ready sanders.

This patented, multi-hole design allows these discs to evacuate dust better than 5-hole or 6-hole dust-free products – dramatically increasing disc life, without compromising cut. The intricate, circular pattern helps dust flow directly away from the surface as the disc pad and abrasive turn. Also, the smaller size of the evacuation holes leaves more cutting area on the disc than traditional dust-management options, which leads to less loading on the abrasive itself.

3M™ Clean Sanding Abrasives and Discs Pads with Hookit™ Attachments don't require hole alignment, allowing quick and easy changeovers for a superior dust-extraction sanding system. Clean Sanding Disc Pads come in a variety of profiles and colors, depending on the series of disc pads. A new red disc pad that matches the tool has been specifically developed for many models. You'll also find Clean Sanding patterns in popular paper-backed coated abrasives including 210U, the new 236U, and in the new 360L film-backed abrasive disc.

The 3M™ Clean Sanding Filter Bags are easy to use because there's no vacuum hose attached to restrict operator movement. 3M™ Filtrete™ Technology captures and holds dust electrostatically, allowing the sanding tool to be used for vertical sanding without clogging the bag entrance port. The result is a cleaner work area that helps you increase productivity and reduce rework due to excess dust.

Traditional Dust-management Options

While the revolutionary 3M™ Clean Sanding System is great for some people, 3M offers more standard dust management abrasives that can also be used with 3M vacuum power tools. These systems work with our self-generated vacuum and central-vacuum-ready sanders.

5-Hole Dust-management

The 5-hole pattern dust-management system uses a series of evenly-spaced holes aligned with the abrasive, disc pad and vacuum vent. The 5-hole system is available in a variety of attachment styles, including Stikit™, Hookit™ and Hookit™ II. Matching abrasives are made in almost all of our most popular paper, film or cloth discs.

6-Hole Dust-management

The 6-hole pattern dust-management system, just like our 5-hole pattern, uses a series of evenly spaced holes aligned with the abrasive, disc pad and vacuum vent, but is often available in larger-sized abrasives and disc pads. The 6-hole system is available in a variety of attachment styles, including Stikit™, Hookit™ and Hookit™ II. Matching abrasives are made in almost all of our most popular paper, film or cloth discs.
