1. How do I process a warranty complaint?
Please call your 3M distributor or representative and they will process the complaint for you. If you do not know who your 3M distributor or representative is, you may call 1-800-362-3550 extension 3, extension 4 to process the complaint.
2. What information do I need to have available when I call?
- Your company's name
- Date of purchase
- Distributor name, phone and fax numbers
- Invoice number
- Tool serial number
- Product/UPC number
- Description of problem
- Return address
- Authorization for out-of-warranty repair
3. How long will it take to turn around my tool repair?
You can expect a two business day turnaround time for the repair, which means a tool arriving in Minnesota on a Monday will be shipped out on Wednesday, via UPS Ground Shipping.
4. Who pays for shipping on warranty complaints?
UPS Ground Shipping for warranty repairs will be paid by 3M.
5. Who pays for shipping on non-warranty complaints?
3M is not responsible for shipping costs for non-warranty repairs. The cost is included in the flat rate repair charge.
6. What tool can I use while my tool's in the shop?
- You may be able to ask your distributor for a loaner tool.
- You may request a loaner tool from your 3M representative.
7. How long is the warranty policy for 3M™ Orbital & Random Orbital Sanders?
12 months from the date of purchase. After a repair, the warranty lasts for the remainder of the 12-month period or 90 days on parts that were installed/altered, whichever is longer.
8. How long is 3M's warranty policy for the 3125 and 8125 Nib/Buff Sanders?
90 Days from the date of purchase.
9. Is the warranty valid if an unauthorized repair depot performs work on the tool?
No. If the tool has been repaired or altered the warranty is void. After 12 months, though, feel free to work on the tool yourself or send it to any other repair depots in your area as the warranty period will have expired.
10. What can I expect for service when I send in a tool for a warranty repair?
You can expect a full diagnostic check followed by repair of the issue(s) causing the tool failure. You can also expect 3M's Authorized Repair Depot to perform a general tune-up on any manufacturers defects expected in the immediate future.
11. What can I expect for service when I send in a tool for an out of warranty repair?
You can expect a full diagnostic check followed by repair of the issue(s) causing the tool failure. You can also expect 3M's Authorized Repair Depot to perform a general tune-up on any worn parts expected in the immediate future.
12. Where should I send non-warranty tools for repair?
You may fix the tool yourself or send non-warranty tools to a local repair depot with access to 3M™ Repairs and Parts.

13. What is covered in a tune-up?
Worn vanes, o-rings, mufflers, valve seats, gaskets, etc.
14. What is covered in an overhaul?
Worn soft parts, bearings, rotor blades, end plates, etc.
15. What types of problems are NOT covered under 3M's warranty?
3M is not obligated to repair or replace any tool or part that fails due to normal wear, inadequate or improper maintenance, inadequate cleaning, non-lubrication, improper operating environment, improper utilities, operator error or misuse, alteration or modification, mishandling, lack of reasonable care, or due to accidental cause.
