Before You Begin ...

Learn about the technical recommendations of your equipment before beginning your project. Operating at different specifications may result in less-than-desired results.

Using the correct disc or backup pad can make all the difference in your project's result. Review some disc pad recommendations.

Basic Random Orbital Disc Sanding Techniques

  • Start the tool ON and stop the tool OFF the work surface to avoid "swirl marks."
  • Run the tool flat to work piece (no tipping on edge).
  • Light operator hand pressure on the tool handle.
  • North, South, East, West common sanding pattern for uniform finish quality – see diagram for indication.
